We believe in being honest. New dentures take a little getting used to — here’s what to genuinely expect.
What to Expect as You Adjust
Patience, practice, and a few follow-up visits — that’s the formula for success.
Eating
Start soft: soups, yogurt, mashed potatoes. Gradually add firmer foods. Avoid sticky or very hard foods initially. Most patients eat normally within 2-4 weeks.
Speaking
Practice reading aloud for a few minutes each day. Some lisping is normal at first — your tongue is learning the new shape. This resolves within 1-2 weeks for most.
Sore Spots
Completely normal. Small sore spots are common in the first 1-2 weeks. We include follow-up adjustments at no extra cost — just come in and we’ll fix it.
Saliva & Taste
Increased saliva and slight taste changes are normal for the first week or two. Both resolve as your mouth adjusts. Sipping water helps.

Yes. Modern dentures are crafted from multi-layered materials that mimic the translucency, color variation, and subtle imperfections of real teeth. We also customize the shade and shape to match your face, age, and personality. Most people won’t know you have them — and that’s the goal.
With proper care, well-made dentures typically last 5-8 years before needing a reline or replacement. Over time, your jawbone naturally changes shape, which is why we recommend a yearly checkup to ensure your dentures still fit comfortably and securely.
Brush daily with a soft denture brush and mild denture cleanser (not regular toothpaste, which is too abrasive). Remove them at night, soak in water or denture solution, and rinse before wearing. We’ll give you a written care guide and walk you through it after fitting.
Most dentists recommend removing dentures at night to give your gums a rest and allow normal saliva flow and cleaning. Sleeping without them also helps prevent bacterial buildup. We’ll discuss what’s best for your specific situation.
Upper dentures may slightly reduce taste sensitivity at first because they cover the palate, but most patients adjust within a few weeks. Your taste buds (which are mostly on your tongue) continue to work normally. Many patients actually enjoy food MORE once they can chew comfortably again.
In most cases, yes. We’ll coordinate with your physician if needed, and we’ll review your full medical history at your consultation. Many seniors with chronic conditions successfully wear dentures every day. The key is careful planning and good communication between your doctors.
Implant-supported dentures are a great option for some patients — they feel more secure and don’t need adhesive. Dr. Priyanka will discuss whether you’re a candidate and refer you to a trusted implant specialist if you’d like to explore that path. There’s no pressure either way.
